Trusses

We manufacture trusses onsite using HYCHORD – a high quality pine based product that is strong, lightweight, and uniform. The end result is a quicker, cleaner and straighter roof, as strong as hardwood, lighter to handle and H2 LOSP treated as well.
 

HYCHORD Trusses

Traditionally in Darwin and the remote area communities of the Northern Territory roof trusses for the domestic construction market have been manufactured from either Steel or Hardwood.

Carter Holt Harvey, through Futurebuild, manufactures an LVL Truss Chord called HYCHORD, which is specifically tailored to the Truss Manufacturing Industry.

HYCHORD has many advantages on site e.g. being pine based LVL product it is suitable for lightweight construction but does not compromise strength. The reduced weight of the trusses would mean that in most instances HYCHORD trusses could be manually handled and installed. This results in labour savings from a speedier installation as well as reducing crane hire costs for truss installation. Site labour is less fatigued and able to improve efficiency on site, thereby reducing site costs and improving job profitability.

The material properties of HYCHORD produce excellent deflection and camber performance speeding installation of ceilings and ceiling support structure again improving  site efficiency and improving labour and material costs. HYCHORD is a kiln dried product so maintenance relating to shrinkage is not an issue.

Many contractors would agree that one of the biggest problems with Traditional Hardwood Roof trusses would be the quality of the trusses. These problems range from trusses that are bent, chords that are uneven in height, truss tails that need to be planed or packed so the ceiling is not full of lumps and bumps. All of these problems add days to extra work to each roof package and this all costs money.

HYCHORD is a man made engineered wood product that is consistent in strength, (equivalent to stress grade F17), each member is exactly the same, and all pieces are straight. The product has been extensively tested and approved for use in cyclonic regions. During the process stages every piece of HYCHORD is ultra sound tested.
